You do need to clean your gutters before winter and here’s why…
Leaves have just fallen during Autumn…
Have you heard of a little thing called Autumn?
Oh great, you have…
Do you know what happens in Autumn?
Yep, all those leaves start to fall from the trees…
And where do you suppose those leaves like to go when they fall from the trees??
That’s right…
They like to settle down in this nice little resting place called “Your Gutters”…
If you’ve read my article on how gutters get clogged, you’ll know what these leaves do while resting in your gutters…
But you know, Autumn is so beautiful with all those golden leaves decorating the ground and the sun is still warm…
And you know something else??
It’s no big deal until winter comes and the rain starts pummeling your home…
Then you’ll see pretty waterfalls inside your bedroom…
Ah yes…
Beautiful waterfalls…
Trust me…
You don’t want to see water flowing anywhere inside your home…
That’s why you need to clean those leaves out of your gutters before winter…
Now, this is the most obvious reason but did you think of this??
Once it rains in winter it will be unsafe to clean your gutters…
Yep…
Rain and ladders don’t mix very well…
Have you ever tried to climb a ladder in the rain?
No?
That’s because you’re a clever bunny…
And that’s why you can’t expect me or any other gutter cleaner for that matter, to get up on your roof when it’s wet and slippery either…
That’s why, it’s best if you can get your gutters cleaned before it gets wet and slippery in Winter…
Wait for them leaves to fall, but don’t wait too long…
Get it done before those winter rains…

If you do try to get up on your roof in Winter, make sure you know how to set a ladder up properly…
Water Trapped in the Gutters can Freeze over…
If you live in an area that snows in the winter, keeping your gutters clean and unblocked is even more critical…
Have you ever heard of an Ice Dam?
It’s when your gutters freeze over…
What happens is, your gutters get blocked up and water fills up in your gutters…
Then when winter comes, that water freezes over…
You get that magical winter wonderland in your own backyard…
Santa will love it…
Then the next time it rains or when snow starts to melt, that water has nowhere to go but to flow back inside your home…
Santa won’t love that!
Trust me…
He won’t deliver presents if you have a waterfall in your living room…
But emergency services will…
This can all be avoided if you clean those leaves and debris out of your gutters before they freeze over in winter…
If your gutters do happen to freeze over in winter, you’ll have to fix it straight away…
It can be pretty difficult to clean frozen gutters…
